Let the Sea set you Free...SOE May Kit

How fortunate for me that my youngest daughter went away for a short Sea break recently...resulting in a perfect picture to use with some of the items in the gorgeous 'Cape May Holiday' kit from Scraps of Elegance...

I used Sun Chaser from the Kaisercraft Paradiso collection as my base, several of the 7 Gypsies Maritime collection as well as some of the Journal Tags and pages for matting.

I used the Kaisercraft Checker Plate template together with my Spritser and Black Soot Distress marker to create the background. Also did some stamping and used the Liquitex Acrylic paint through a Prima stencil to create the cracked texture.

In the main kit we had three Capiz Shells...I coloured mine with a few drops of alcohol inks. Really love the fragile look of these pieces of shell...

A butterfly from Renea Bouquets, Resin embellishments from Melissa Frances and Prima and Petaloo flowers.

I distressed a piece of the ribbon from the Embellishment Add-on.

Some micro beads and cheesecloth for added texture.
Thank you for strolling through my post...

Breath...Scraps of Elegance " Cape May Holiday" Kit

The May kit that Melinda Kelly put together for us at Scraps of Elegance was once again packed with the most amazing papers and embellishments...One of the paper collections featured is the new Prima Seashore collection, and that is what I used for this page.
This is a photo of me ~really~ taken when we went Ocean Walking during our vacation on Mauritius in 2007.

I used two sheets from the Seashore Collection 'Sea Shell', Different flowers from the Main kit and the Flower Add-on, products from the Creativity Add-on and ATC cards from the Embellishment Add-on. From my own stash I used a Prima Say in in Pearls flourish and some wooden flower, leaves and frame.

The frame was coloured with the Prima Colour Blooms from the Colour Add-on, the title was cut from the backing paper of one of the flower packs...the Die-cuts were cut from some of the ATC's.

I used the Seashore clear stamp to create the border...I inked just the corners, or just the straight lines and also used the adorable shell stamp as a focus point. I coloured the white Pearls with some Victorian Velvet Distress Paint and a little Fired brick.

The leaves were colored with the Glistening Waves Color Bloom and a little Tea Stain was painted on as well...I also dabbed a little of the Natural Sand Texture Gel onto them. The idea to place them as sea-grass came from my daughter Chantelle...clever girl yes?

I had so much fun creating the background...All because of the gorgeous products in the Creative Add-on...I am posting some close ups and details at the end...

I must admit that receiving a piece of cheesecloth was the highlight of my kit...for some reason our local haberdashery doesn't know what cheesecloth is, hence I have been using surgical gauss. And Melinda has been so generous, I will be using this for many projects still...!

Some more of the small stamps that are in the stamp set, and tags from the 'Tag Me' package.

To follow, some close-ups and techniques on how I prepared my background...

After applying and drying some gesso to the page, I sprayed Glistening Waves Color Bloom onto the page. With the Catalyst brush I attempted to create waves, but instead the mist formed these bubble like shapes...which in the end I loved more than the wave idea..The Peony Mist I applied with a brush through a stencil, also resulting in a different texture then what I set out for.

I used all three the mists to create some spatters as well.

Awesome colour and texture achieved with the Natural Sand Texture Gel and the Tea Stain Mist.

I applied the gel and Tea Stain mist directly to the page and used the brush to mix it and create the waves. For the Blue waves I did the mixing on a piece of scrap and then brushed it onto the page.

The page before I covered some of the goodness with my photo and embellishments...

Thank you for your time...remember to visit The Scrap of Elegance sites, and do subscribe if you are interested in the kits...they really do sell like Hotcakes!!!

Family - May Once upon A...Sketch

I have been absent from my Blog for a while...apologies therefore, but am back now to share some of my latest pages with you all!
First up is this page created for the May challenge at Once upon A...Sketch. I had it created in time, but with all the happenings I did not get to posting it on the challenge site.
Our journalling theme this month is 'Anything goes'

This photo is one of the rare ones of my Mother's family taken in early 1944. I used papers from Jodie Lee's Princess Collection Kit from Prima for this page. This is such a beautiful range, being a little Girly Grunge and Shabby Chic all in one.

My clock-hand was inked and embossed with a little random UTEE

Some Prima flowers and a new resin Oval Frame.

I did some stamping using a Script and Diamond stamp, also from Prima.

As I said, this photo was taken early in 1944, In the back row is my Onkel Heinz, Grandmother Maria, Grandfather Wilhelm, Tante Trude. Then the twins, Onkel Willi and Tante Wilhelmine. The little sweety in front is my Mother Mariliese. My hidden journalling is about the following obituary...

" Im jugendichen Alter von 10 jahren wurde Wilhelmine Beuel auf Gut Neuenhof bei Nideggen am 12 Dezember 1944 ein Opfer des Krieges."

As this was World War 2, my GP farm was commanded by German soldiers. My mother often tells us tales of the time she grew up with the sound of sirens and bomber planes flying overhead...a soldier was allocated to each child to make sure they made it to the bunkers in time whenever the sirens were sound. On this fateful day, after another bomb attack, Wilhelmine aged 10, went out after the all clear was given, but a young German soldier, merely a child himself, lying in the trenches, lost his head in the madness and shot and killed her. My mother used to tell us that when my Grand father got the news of her death, his hair turned white overnight from the shock.

To create this beautiful texture on the 2 Crafty Chipboard, I dabbed a thick layer of Bundled Sage Distress Paint on the leaves and stems, and Victorian Velvet on the flowers and gave it a close blast with my heatgun in order for the paint to bubble. I also painted some Lindy's Stampgang Ghostly Gargoyle White onto it for a little shimmer.

Loving the new Prima Doily Stickers.

Another piece of 2 Crafty Chipboard and a Prima Clock hand.

There is still time enough to create a page using the gorgeous sketch by Nadia Cannizzo and enter the 'Anything goes' theme...

Thank you for your visit...
