Blue Fern Studios

A few days ago I came across a post mentioning a new chipboard company in the States...and of course, being a great lover of chipboard, I just had to investigate...

Now, they only officially start in January 2013....( can you believe that is only 11 days away!!! ) but they are already having two give away's and are looking for a Design Team! And that is one change I am going to take, for going by the few pieces that they are teasing us with, it will be right up my designing alley to use their products! Am I selling myself here as a great candidate for their Team??? Of course I am!

Just have a look at their teasers and then join their blog and FP page and like me, eagerly await the gallery to  get flooded with great and wonderful projects...

Welcome and best of luck to Blue Fern Studios!!!

~ My 10 Favourite LO's of 2012 ~

It is time again to comply a list of my 10 favourite LO's... Once again they showcase my love of working with chipboard pieces... It seems as if my style hasn't changed much this past year, still love the layers and the distressing! I did work with some interesting new products though and tried my hand at different new techniques...

I linked the photos, please visit the individual posts for more details and close ups...

    BELIEVE

This must be my al time favourite...love the effect of all the painting and misting on the chippies, and my technique of heating the UTEE until just melted and then having the mists pool in the cavity's...just have to love all the texture achieved this way!

    DREAM

Another LO that turned out quite different from what I had in mind. Here I used the webbing spray on the window frame with alcohol inked transparency behind it resulting in a gorgeous effect.

    LOVELY

Love working with Prima products...who doesn't? And I got a great stash of the most beautiful Le Coque flower...it will be seen in quite a few more LO's in future...

   SOULFUL

Linsdys Stamp Gang mists are great on chipboard...one of the new products for the year!

    SWEET MEMORIES

Had a lot of fun creating this LO...lots of stamping, misting and texture added.

    ANGEL

The most saddest one of the year...having to have said goodbye to our best friend of 15 years...a well loved member of our family, was an honour to create this LO in memory of Balkie...Showing another favourite chipboard technique...soaking and layering the chipboard.

    TREASURE

Sad knowing I won't see this LO any more as it was an auction piece at a conference that I taught at...At least I know the proceeds bought a bag of dog food as this was a fund riser for an animal shelter...Also some lovely texture on the chipboards...

    ENCOURAGE

Loved dressing this Enmarc door and bricks!!! The door was inked, UTEE'd, stamped and inked again! The bricks were also inked, texture pasted and inked again.

   NEW WHEELS

With this LO I let the grunge come out a bit...just look at the grungy splashes of UTEE and Lindys!

A precious photo, baby me with Daddy...This frame looks stunning with the ironworks embossed with Stampendous Age enamel...

Thank you for scrolling through my favourites with me...

Scrap Africa Challenge # 12 - Filmstrip

~ PLAY ~

So what do you do when the challenge says ~ Use Film strips ~ ? You do just exactly that! I used Film strip Dies, Rub ons, Stamps and Ranger Film strip Ribbons! Are those enough Film strips you think?

This is Elizna's challenge for us at Scrap Africa... You have to go and have a look at the amazing LO's done by my fellow DT and our Guest Designers  Romy Veul and Tina...

I had this photo of my youngest daughter Michelle when she was about 18 months old. It suited the challenge so well.

I did some heavy distressing on this LO... I once saw a LO done by Natasha Naranjo Aguirre, were she did a grunged LO with a photo of her baby son. I was so impressed by it, for she still captured his sweetness in between the grunge...I actually love how this LO turned out...

Believe

For some reason it seems I have not placed this LO on my blog yet...I used Prima papers, Dusty Attic chipboard and Ingvild Bolme trinkets on it...

The photos are Chantelle at her Matric Farewell Dance...again, but she looked so stunning, can't help scrapping the photo's!

The chipboard were painted and randomly covered with clear UTEE. I then misted some Lindsy Stamp Gang Mist on.

The leafy Stems I painted and sprinkled some glass glitters onto.

Thank you for looking...and now onto another LO!

~~ Cute Baby ~~

This is a very nostalgic photo for me ... it is the only one I have of me as a little baby with my dad. That makes this a photo taken in 1963! Although he passed away 21 years already, I have the most fond memories of him and know that I carry many of his believes in me... I would have loved for him to have known his Grand children...know he would have made an amazing grandfather to them!

For this LO I used Pion Papers, a most gorgeous frame from Twiddleybitz, Prima flowers and Ingvild trinkets...

I take it that the Opening Gate was meant more for an Off the Page Project, for it has hinged doors, but I just loved the idea of using it on a LO! I painted the three layers in shades of blue and gave the top one some spots of Perfect Pearls highlights.

I embossed the Ironworks with black Stampendous Aged Enamel and placed some flowers and Fern Leaves behind them.

The stamped images are from a LeBlanche stamp.

The Butterfly is from the Flutterby's and Butterfly set from Twiddleybitz and was inked with Distress Inks and some Glossy Accent.

A Zipper and Typo Bulb from Prima ... I coloured the Zipper with some Alcohol Ink.

The wings of the Cherub were dusted with some Perfect Pearls in blue and green. The flowers are Harlow Cashew from Prima.

I treated the Fern Leaves by dabbing some Texture Paste on them, then inked them with Distress Inks and a little Glitter.

Thank you for taking a stroll down memory lane with me...If you still have your Father...treasure them, for they may be gone all to soon....

I pressed my father's hand and told him I would protect his grave with my life.
My father smiled and passed away to the spirit land.

Dream as if you'll life Forever...

This LO designed itself....I had quite a different vision when I started it, had no photo in mind, no real embellishments ...just wanted to break away from my usual flowers and bling and girly ect. LO's! Wanted to try my hand at some mixed media, slapping the gesso and paint stuff on like so many great works I see....LOL...and this is what happened!

I wanted to use some of my OLD, never being used any more flowers, yes I know I did not want to do the flower thing, but I wanted the texture under all the gesso you see? Anyhow, I started painting the flowers with Tokreen, did not want them flat, thought of stiffening them and then paint them white with either gesso or texture paint...So here I am happily painting and placing them and in walks Chantelle and going..."oh that looks so pretty!" and whoops...I started looking at it all with a different eye and out flew the gesso and texture painting idea and an all together different LO emerged! And I am loving it...so the mixed media, gesso'd, textured LO has to wait till a next time!

I bought a can of Krylon Webbing Spray at a craft shop, and got the most amazing effect on my Dusty Attic  Arch Window and the background as well... Let's see whether you also like the outcome of this self designed LO...

This photo is my son Francois, in 1985 when he was 2 years old with one of our dogs...

The Tokreen gives the flowers a wax-like feel and look. I sprayed the paper with the Webbing Spray as well and misted it with Lindys Stamp Gang Mist. The gauze is also stiffened with Tokreen. In hind side I could have done some stamping at this stage...

This is what the Webbing Spray looks like.

I held the window frame in the air and sprayed the Webbing, catching it in the corners giving it a spider web effect! I inked the frame and also added some crackle paint to it.

To create the window, I coloured a piece of transparency with Alcohol ink and adhered it to the back of the frame.

Ingvild / Prima's metal Shabby Chic Treasures, the Gate and Lamp post were also coloured with some Alcohol inks. I bend the gates a little to give them some dimension.

The clock hand was embossed with Stampendous Aged Taupe enamel. Doesn't it look divine? The word band is of course a Tim Holtz idea-ology swiped with some white Dabber.

My trusty Grass Clusters and mini bird House from Dusty were inked, crackle painted and some Distress Sticklers added as well.

This then is my LO... not what was planned at all, but very happy with the result...hope to soon try my hand at that mixed media one!!!
